Shower and tub repair in Bryan & College Station

Ramon Service Company repairs shower and tub valves in Bryan and College Station - Moen, Delta, Kohler, Pfister and Symmons - usually the same day, and often inside an hour once we have the cartridge.

  • We answer the phone
  • We show up when we said, and call if that changes
  • Three options, explained and priced before anything starts

What you are seeing, and what it usually means

A shower that drips is a noise you cannot unhear once you have noticed it. A shower leaking somewhere you cannot see is a different problem altogether.

  • It drips after you turn it off

Nearly always the cartridge. The seals inside have worn or scaled up and the valve no longer closes completely. It’s the most common call we get, and it’s usually the cheapest fix on this page.

  • No pressure at one fixture

If the rest of the house is fine, the problem is at that fixture - a blocked aerator or shower head, or a cartridge that has scaled up enough to restrict flow. If pressure is low everywhere, it isn’t a shower problem and we would be looking at the supply instead.

  • The handle turns but the temperature does not change

Usually a failed pressure-balance or thermostatic cartridge. Some are also adjustable, and occasionally the limit stop has drifted rather than the part having failed - worth checking before anyone replaces anything.

  • The tub spout keeps running while the shower is on

That’s the diverter, either in the spout itself or in the valve, depending on how the bath is plumbed. A spout diverter is a straightforward swap. A valve diverter is more involved because the trim has to come off.

  • Water showing on the ceiling below

    Potentially severe

The one to take seriously, and the one worth being honest about: this isn’t always a plumbing fault. It can be the valve or a supply line, and it can equally be the shower pan, the grout or the door seal letting water past. Those are different trades and different money. We’ll find out which before anyone starts quoting a repair. If it turns out to be waterproofing rather than plumbing, we’ll say so and tell you who you actually need.

Cartridges, by brand

Most of this work is a cartridge, and which one you have decides how the job goes. We carry or can source:

  • Moen - 1222 and 1225 on older single-handle valves, Posi-Temp on newer
  • Delta - RP19804 on the Monitor 1400 series, and the 13/14 and 17 series MultiChoice cartridges
  • Kohler - Rite-Temp and the GP-series service kits
  • Price Pfister, American Standard, Symmons Temptrol, Grohe thermostatic, and the older Mixet and Valley valves you still find in houses around here

If you’ve taken the handle off already and photographed what’s behind it, text us the picture. Nine times out of ten that’s enough to identify the part before we set off, which is the difference between one visit and two.

About the water pressure

If a shower has needed a cartridge more than once, the cartridge isn’t really the problem. Incoming pressure above about 80 psi chews through valve seals, and it does the same to toilet fill valves, washing machine hoses and the water heater.

We can check the static pressure while we’re there. If it’s high, a pressure regulator is a separate job and a bigger conversation - but at least you would know why you keep buying the same part.

When can it be fixed?

Same day for most cartridge and valve work, and usually under an hour once we have the part.

We are out 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Call and describe what you are seeing and you will get a straight answer, including if it can safely wait until tomorrow.

What happens when you call

  1. 01

You reach the company, not a call center

No dispatch queue and no script. Describe what you are seeing and you will get a straight answer on whether it needs a truck today.

  2. 02

    $80 service call

Waived when you approve the work and we start the same day. It pays for finding out what is actually wrong instead of guessing.

  3. 03

    Three options, priced

Written down before anything is touched. Nothing happens until you pick one.

How we quote it

Once we know what is actually wrong you get three options, written down before anything is touched. What fills each one depends on what we find, but the shape is always the same, and every one of them solves the problem you called about. The $80 service call is waived when you approve the work and we start the same day.

  1. Option 1

    The smallest fix that works

The least work that actually solves the problem. What that turns out to be depends on what we find, but it’s always the first thing we price.

Best when: The rest of the fixture is sound and the fault is contained.

  2. Option 2

Fix it, and what’s next to it

The repair plus the parts around it that are the same age and heading the same way.

Best when: You would rather not be back here in six months.

  3. Option 3

    Replace it

A new fixture or unit, sized to the house and brought to current code.

Best when: Repairs have stopped being economical, or you were going to replace it anyway.

Why it happened

Around here it’s nearly always pressure or water condition. High incoming pressure wears the rubber seals inside a cartridge faster than they were built to go, and hard water leaves mineral on the moving parts, so the handle stiffens and then the seal stops seating properly. That’s why the same shower comes back every couple of years unless somebody actually looks at the pressure feeding it.

What happens if you wait

A drip is a cartridge today. Left running long enough, the constant water wears the brass valve body the cartridge sits in, and at that point it isn’t a part any more, it’s opening the wall. Water showing on a ceiling or down a wall is a different clock entirely - that one doesn’t wait, because by the time it’s visible it has been running somewhere you can’t see for a while.

Common questions

How soon can you get here?
Same day most times. We’re out 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call and describe what you’re seeing and you’ll get a straight answer on when we can be there - including if it can safely wait until tomorrow.
Is there a service charge?
There’s an $80 service call to find out what’s actually wrong, and it’s waived if you approve the work and we start the same day. That covers finding out what’s actually wrong rather than guessing at it. Once we know, you get three options priced before any work starts, cheapest first, and you pick.
Do you do tub refinishing, shower doors or tile?
No. Refinishing and reglazing, shower doors and glass, and tile and grout are all separate trades and you want a specialist for each. Same with hot tub equipment - pumps, heaters and control panels are a spa technician's job. A leaking water line feeding a hot tub is a plumbing leak though, and that one is ours.
What if something isn’t right after you leave?
Call us and we’ll come back and look at it, and there’s no $80 service call when it’s work we did. There’s no warranty certificate to read - what’s fair depends on what failed and why - but we’ll listen, look at what’s actually happening, and work with you toward a fair fix. We’re family owned and Aggie owned, and in a town this size our reputation is the business.
  • Same day

    Faucet and Outdoor Tap Repair

Dripping kitchen and bath faucets, leaks under the sink, and outdoor taps that split over a freeze.

  • Same day

    Toilets, Drains and Disposals

Running toilets, repeat clogs, water at the base, slow drains and jammed disposals - fixture-level work, done properly.

What we do not do

Worth saying plainly so nobody wastes a phone call. These are real trades, they are just not ours:

  • tub refinishing, reglazing and resurfacing
  • shower doors, glass and hinges
  • tile, grout and regrouting
  • hot tub and spa equipment - pumps, heaters, jets and control panels

A leaking supply line to a hot tub is a plumbing leak that happens to end at a hot tub. That one is ours.
